I am a teaching artist.
I impact young minds in a creative way in and turn any space into an environment that values the arts. I create a space that allows students to express their creativity. I demonstrate artistic techniques and help students use these techniques. I facilitate an environment where all students feel welcome, intrigued, and encouraged to be risk takers, to try new things, and be curious with art.
I believe that art is a vessel that allows people to express something that would not be expressed otherwise. It is fun and allows for a creative outlet, thus creating a balance in life. Art makes you think. I love to teach people to value themselves and to foster their creative ideas, helping them build confidence in their work in hope that this confidence will enhance their life experience and make the individual a happier person. This ties in very closely with my educational philosophy: Art is a subject that can push boundaries and explore creative abilities. It is a safe haven for most students, a place of diversity and understanding. As a teaching artist, I have the opportunity to show examples of art from cultures all over the world. It is up to me to have a culturally diverse curriculum, one that engages and inspires students' minds to wander and wonder what life is like in other countries and life circumstances. I want to deliver an education that will help my students in the future. I have always heard people say that knowledge is power, and I believe that is true. As a teaching artist, I have the opportunity to make a great impact on my students. I believe every student can be creative.
